At the office of Orthodontics and Dentistry for Kids, we make it possible for you to achieve your healthiest and most brilliant smile while giving you quality, comfortable dental care. We are here to help you take good care of your teeth because we understand that keeping a healthy teeth and mouth goes beyond brushing and flossing and all the other oral routines you do at home. For complete care, we highly recommend a dental visit every six months for regular checkups and professional dental cleanings.
A dental checkup and cleaning appointment at our practice will generally include the following
Examination and Diagnostic Services
During your dental check up, we review and update your medical history, including information about heart problems, pregnancy, diabetes and medications, which may have an impact on your oral health. We also evaluate your gum tissue and check your biting, chewing and swallowing patterns. We make use of digital X-rays to check for hidden problems with your oral health.
Our patient education services are aimed to help you understand how to maintain your best dental health. These include:
- Tooth brushing and flossing instructions
- Nutritional counseling
- Recommendations for future treatment: when to return for follow-up hygiene treatment, periodontal (gum) concerns or restorative options
Professional Dental Cleaning
Teeth cleaning, also known as prophylaxis, is the process of removing tartar, plaque deposits from the hidden areas of the mouth where brush and floss cannot reach. The cleaning is performed by our experienced dental hygienists using advanced dental instruments.
Our regular dental check-ups include oral cancer screenings to detect pre-cancerous or cancerous lesions in your mouth. The screening is performed by thoroughly examining your mouth, face, neck, lips, tongue, lymph nodes, thyroid gland and saliva glands for any abnormalities. If you have dentures, they will have to be removed to allow us to thoroughly examine your mouth. Oral exams are the best way to detect lesions, so it is very important to schedule regular dental visits.
